Visor Cable Reference.
Cheap Cable Tester
Note: Cable manufactures may use different wire color codes for the cable you have.
You may need to determine your cable wire coding to correctly configure the cable to work.
Use a Multimeter to determine the color of the wire and the corresponding pins to be used.
SV203 Modification Instructions
This modification allows the Visor PDA to work with the SV203Controller.
WARNING : This procedure voids your Pontech warranty. You assume responsibility for all
damages to your Pontech SV203 controller as a result of any modifications you do to the board.
NOTE: Once you modify the Pontech controller to work with the Visor,
..............it will NOT work with Palm PDA devices anymore.
SV203 Modification Steps:
1. Take a look at the Pontech controller board. ( drawings below ) The side with all the components and
.... header connections on it is the top side. Flip the controller board over, there is only one IC chip there
.... and it's a small surface-mounted MAX489 IC chip. This is the bottom side of the SV203 controller
.... board which you will be modifying.
2. Use a small pen soldering iron and solder wick, carefully remove the solder from the MAX489IC pins.
.... Take an X-ACTO knife and gently pry the MAX489 IC pins away from the PCB board while heating
.... each pin with the small pen soldering iron. Use caution not to overheat, or damage the PC board and
.... traces. Remove the MAX489 IC from the Pontech controller board.
3. Check the PC board for any damage that may have occurred and for any splash over solder that could
.... short out any surrounding traces.
4. Look for a small White Dot on the PC board near the point where the MAX489 was. (see drawings below)
.... This is the reference point for the MAX489 IC, indicating that this is pin 1 of the MAX489 IC chip.
5. Using small gauge wires, make a jumper connections between,
....Pin 2 to Pin 11 and then Pin 5 to Pin 10.Use caution when soldering the wires to the PC board pads.
6. Check the PC board for any splash over solder that could short out any surrounding traces.
7. The SV203 controller board is now ready to be used with the Visor PDA.
